How to Spend a Girl’s Weekend In Las Vegas
Take an Early Flight
If you only have a few days to spend in Vegas, it is best to fly there early in the day. For this girl’s weekend trip to Vegas: someone else arranged my flights. The flight was too late in the day. We had a enough time to get dinner and go out for awhile, it made for a long day. There is so much to do and see, make the most of your weekend by getting there early.
Where to Stay
This time we stayed at the Mirage. It was my first time to check in there, and I loved every minute of it! The pool was my absolute favorite part of the stay. It reminded me of a Hawaiian beach, even though there were no ocean waves. Palm trees galore, views to die for and the hot October sun: it doesn’t get any better!
A tip to consider when planning pool time: If you are only staying 2-3 days: definitely ask about the pool schedule at check in. Most hotels have their pool times posted, but they don’t always stick to them! We found out the hard way, and made plans the 2nd day to swim later on. When we came back from town ,we found out the pool was closing early for an event. We were so bummed!
If you’ve been to this desert oasis, you know the choices for accommodations are endless! I don’t know about you, but I refuse to spend big bucks on a hotel room. Most travelers don’t spend much time in the room. Seriously though: if a hotel is clean, updated, and has a pool- that is all a girl really needs! I would rather save my dollars for shows, shopping and tours.
When you go, plan some time to stroll through as many hotels as you can. They are each a unique attraction to behold. I featured some of them in a previous visit .
Another affordable hotel, (which also has an amazing pool) is the Golden Nugget in Old Town Las Vegas. It is a landmark boutique hotel, with vintage charm you will fall in love with. Walking through the halls , whisked me back to my childhood days in the 70’s. The décor is fabulous, with amazing retro vibes.
Visit Fremont
Fremont is one of the best kept secrets of Vegas! It is where the Las Vegas strip first got its start. When people speak of “Downtown Las Vegas”, they are usually referring to this area.
Fremont street dates back to 1905, when Las Vegas was founded.
The “Fremont Street Experience”,was born in 1994. This is when the canopy was added overhead , and it became a destination in the city. This street offers so much fun and nostalgia. It’s one of my favorite experiences in Vegas, be sure to ad it to your itinerary. There is zip lining, stages with entertainment, shopping and every kind of zany street act you can imagine.
Not to mention, there are 4 huge casinos , many buffets and shops to keep your interest. There is one
eatery, you just can’t miss: The Heart Attack Grill . It’s one of the most interactive dining experiences I’ve ever had.
Set your teeth into a burger stacked 4 patties high, sing karaoke with the servers, or get a whack with a paddle for not finishing your food! If you go be prepared to be outfitted in a hospital gown, it’s all part of the experience.
Where to Find Nightlife
Although Las Vegas is known as a huge party city, you don’t have to drink there to have fun. I’m not much of a drinker, but do like to enjoy a blue Hawaii now and then . I mostly love the fun vibes at the different hotels and lounges.
Vegas has several rooftop bars, with views to take your breath away day or night! The Mandalay, Rio and Stratosphere are all ones I’ve visited. None of them offer dancing, but the views are enough to keep your attention for hours.
The girls and I visited a unique nightlife spot, inside Ceaser’s Palace. It was called Cleopatra’s Barge , a little floating lounge off the casino floor. The band playing that night: Saxman Duo was probably one of the best I’ve heard. They played all 70’s and 80’s Motown music.
If you love glam and glitz, then the “Chandelier” at the Cosmopolitan is the place for you! There are 3 lounges spanning 3 floors, encased with crystal. It feels like sitting inside a huge sparkly wine glass! Each lounge has a different vibe. I’m sure you can find one to suit your tastes.
